A holistic approach
I practice a holistic approach to nutrition, which means that I look at how all areas of your life are connected. Does stress at your job or in your relationship cause you to overeat? Does lack of sleep or low energy prevent you from exercising? As we work together, we look at how all parts of your life affect the whole.
No one diet works for everyone
The concept of bio-individuality is that each person has their own nutritional needs. So, when the experts say, “dairy is good for you” or “fat is unhealthy,” it’s too much of a generalization. One person’s food is another person’s poison, and that’s why fad diets don’t work in the long run. I look at your age, health, activity level, blood type, metabolic rate and personal preferences to determine your dietary needs.
Everything is food
Healthy relationships, a fulfilling career, regular physical activity and a spiritual practice are essential forms of nourishment. When these “primary foods” are balanced, what you eat becomes secondary.
The Four Branches of Wellness
Awareness
To facilitate, long lasting changes, you must first look within. When we become present in our bodies, we don’t need to think about what nourishes us or question if something is “good” or “bad.” By becoming present with ourselves, we begin to know and desire the things that truly nourish us.
Movement
Maintaining movement in the body through exercise and activity is essential to achieving balance. Exercise not only releases stored toxins and excesses in the body, but brings oxygen and more importantly awareness to the areas that are stagnant and in need of healing awareness. By helping you to establish an exercise or form of movement that works for you, we further ensure your body’s capability of achieving real transformation.
Nutrition
All of our body’s actions/reactions are facilitated by our innate desire to achieve balance. It is our illnesses or disharmonies in life that can teach us the greatest lessons. I believe that true medicine, in any form, is that which supports the body’s natural processes towards healing. By developing an Awareness around our relationship with how we nourish and support ourselves, we again ensure further success in our transformation. Working together to examine what is at the root of illnesses; we begin to enhance our entire relationship to ourselves. In developing your own true sense of nourishment you will connect with that which truly sustains you.
Integration & Support
In endeavoring to make real changes within our lives, it is crucial to receive support. And yet, asking for help or feeling safe enough to be present in our bodies can be a very scary and difficult thing in our lives. The fact that you are reading this shows that you have already made progress in your commitment to facilitate real change in your life. What is awaiting you is the support that you need in mind, body and spirit to help facilitate that change. In the fourth component of the Four Branch Plan, it is my place to support you during the changes you experience along your healing journey.
